How to Make a Saltwater Taffy the Easy and Enjoyable Way

To those who didn’t know, saltwater taffy is definitely a children’s choice. Not only are those candies colorful; they are also soft and chewy in texture. Once getting the right taste and texture, it depends on the maker whichever color they want to put in their taffies. What’s more amazing is that you can also personalize the candy wrappers in order to make it more attractive.

The ingredients and procedure in making saltwater taffy is somewhat easy. What’s difficult though, is that most of the time is usually consumed by pulling or stretching out of taffies. So if you’re planning to make saltwater taffies, always make sure that somebody is available to help you. And since Halloween now draws close, you’re going to need a longer time making those.

How To Make A Saltwater Taffy The Easy And Enjoyable Way

Ingredients

  • ½ cup Plain Water
  • 2 cups Sugar (Granulated)
  • 2 tbsps. Butter
  • 1 cup Light Corn Syrup
  • 1 tsp. Vanilla or Flavoring Extract
  • ¾ tsp. Table Salt
  • ¼ cup Marshmallow Cream
  • 3-4 drops Food Coloring (Liquid or Gel)

Directions

  1. Prepare the baking sheet first by spraying it with some oil or non-stick cooking spray. You need to do this in order to prevent the taffies from sticking.
  2. Next, mix corn syrup, salt, granulated sugar and water inside a four-quart saucepan over a medium-high heated stove. Stir the entire mixture until the granulated sugar melts. Make sure that you brush down the sides of the saucepan with a wet pastry brush to prevent the sugar from returning to its solid form. Use a candy thermometer in order to monitor the mixture’s temperature. Cook it without stirring until its temperature reaches 255 degrees Fahrenheit.
  3. Once done, remove the pan from heat, add the butter and some flavoring and stir until everything is well-blended.
  4. After that, pour the entire syrup in the baking sheet, spreading it out. Add the marshmallow cream and some food coloring on top. Let the mixture cool for about five to ten minutes before folding the set candy into the center by means of a spatula.
  5. Using some plastic gloves, put on some non-stick solution in your hands, gather the folded candy mixture and start kneading it until the marshmallow cream and food coloring is mixed with the entire candy. Make a stretching and twisting action just like you do with a normal rope. Do it for twenty minutes until the saltwater taffy retains its form and becomes firmer.
  6. After pulling and twisting, divide the taffy into four equal parts before cutting it into separate one-inch pieces. Once done, you can either eat or wrap it for future consumption.
